STEAM REDESIGN
Steam is Valve's digital distribution platform with over 120 million monthly active users, and this project proposes a comprehensive redesign of its desktop interface. The proposal addresses the store, library, and user profiles — three areas that had not received a deep visual revision in years. The main challenge was modernizing the experience without breaking the navigation patterns that millions of users had already internalized.
Design — Gaming
> steam@mission-control:~$ diagnostics --run ERROR: Steam maintained the same visual framework for over 5 years without significant iterations. The interface uses pre-2015 design patterns that contrast with current standards. WARN: Epic Games Store and GOG offer more modern visual experiences with better use of space, contemporary typography, and fluid transitions. CRITICAL: Library navigation with 500+ games relies on a vertical list with no visual grouping. Users take 12+ seconds to find a specific title without resorting to the search bar.
The library adopts a dynamic grid system that groups games by category, last session, and installation status, reducing visual search time to under 3 seconds. User profiles incorporate a social activity feed with recent achievements, screenshots, and hours played, turning each profile into a personal showcase. The store features expanded previews with inline trailers and visual recommendations based on play history, all validated through a functional interactive prototype in Figma.
